How Jesus applied the "law of love"!
DID JESUS BREAK THE LAW?
In the 10 commandments the following is written:
Exodus 31:14-15 "You shall keep the Sabbath…for it is holy unto you: every one that defiles it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever does any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever does any work in the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
Uh-oh! According to the Law and the Prophets, to "keep the Sabbath holy" was not a minor, but one of the greater and strictest commandments in the law, punishable by capital punishment! You could be stoned to death for not keeping the Sabbath! It actually happened in Moses' days, that a man who was just gathering sticks on the Sabbath, was stoned to death for it!
Strangely enough, Jesus didn’t seem to "take the Sabbath very serious", and even argued with those who tried to accuse and condemn Him and His disciples for "breaking it." It even seems that He provoked them almost on purpose, healing people on the Sabbath…many times. He even put "common sense", the needs of the human body, and even the well-being of animals above the "Holy Sabbath!"
He also argued that He was Lord of the Sabbath, and that the Sabbath was made for man, instead of man for the Sabbath! You could almost extrapolate that, to mean that the LAW was made for man, and not man for the LAW! Well the law was made for certain of us, as it says in 1Timothy 1:9:
"Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
And… the law was surely also made to protect the righteous among us, as it says in Galatians 3:19
"Wherefore then serves the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made…
This is a very precious passage: "till the seed should come to whom the promise was made!"
MERCY AND TRUTH CAME BY JESUS CHRIST
Jesus’ disciples plucked corn and Jesus healed the withered hand—on the Sabbath!
Matthew 12:1-15 At that time Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were hungry, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, your disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath day. But he said unto them, Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and they that were with him; How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the showbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests? Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless? But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. But if ye had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day. And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue: And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, ‘Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath days?’ that they might accuse him. And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the Sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days. Then said he to the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other. Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him. But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all.
Jesus didn’t just argue against the Pharisees, but he argued against the legalism of the strict law, putting mercy and truth above the rigidity of a hard, unfeeling observance of the law! Not just measuring love and mercy by the law, but measuring the law by love and mercy!—Even by truth, reason and commonsense, with and without scriptural precedents!
IS MERCY AND TRUTH ABOVE THE LAW THEN?
Jesus mercifully argued that:
According to the law, Jesus’ disciples should have been stoned to death, for plucking and rubbing corn on the Sabbath, yet the Lord did not condemn them, but even defended them against the enforcement of the law by the "righteousness police"--the Pharisees! Not just that, but Jesus seemed to purposely provoke these worshippers of the law, by healing people on the Sabbath almost habitually, flouting their rules left and right! Why did He and His disciples do such things? The key scripture in the above passage is:
"But if you had known what this means, ‘I will have mercy and not sacrifice’, you would not have condemned the guiltless."
He called His disciples guiltless, yet they had just flagrantly broken a law punishable by death! Why? How could the Lord ever justify such a thing? Not just that, but what kind of precedent did Jesus create here? Is the law subject to Love and Mercy, reason or common sense?
In another incident Jesus put ‘doing good’ and ‘saving lives’ above the immutability of the law!
Luke 6:9 "Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? To save life, or to destroy it?
In another instant it says:
"The Lord then answered him, and said, You hypocrite, does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day? Luke 13:17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
JESUS WAS THE STUMBLINGBLOCK IN SION
What kind of message did Jesus promote like this among the people? Didn’t he care that the people would perhaps follow His example, and start "breaking" the law as well, and follow Mercy & Truth instead? Didn’t He care what such "lawlessness" cold lead to? They were obviously really turned on by the freedom that He thus proclaimed. And these were not just isolated incidents, but time and again Jesus promoted the same thing.
What a thing to do? Not just the people, but later also St. Paul obviously rejoiced in this new freedom, as he wrote in Colossians 2:14-17:
"Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Paul even drew his own conclusions from Jesus’ actions and example:
"Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
He said that instead of Israel, the Gentiles had stumbled onto the righteousness of faith,
Romans 9:30 "What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
31 "But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness. 32 "Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; 33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Paul said that Jesus was the stumblingblock to Israel, and to the legalists! But not just to Israeli legalists, but to all legalists, those of today as well! They still have not digested or can’t handle this freedom from the law! Many Christians feel insecure, are under the law and legislate righteousness for themselves and especially for others, like toddlers do when the teacher leaves the classroom! Why?
Either because they have no faith yet in His New Testament, or their teachers don’t want them to be free and liberate them, because they would otherwise lose control over their members, as sure as the Pharisees lost it! And THAT they don’t like! For that is often what many of them are in the religious business for in the first place!—That is… to have many members, which brings finances, politics and power!
DID GOD CHANGE HIS MIND, OR JUST HIS POLICY?
This is a very precious passage: "till the seed should come to whom the promise was made!" Which seed is that? The seed of Jesus Christ! The generation that received Jesus and to whom subsequently the promises of Eternal Life were given. For free! By faith!
"The just shall live by faith!"
Until Jesus and His seed, Israel had been under the law. But God had always preferred it to be by grace in the first place! He knew and always had in mind that one day, He was gonna change His policy with His people. He would make a new Covenant with the believers in His Messiah! A new Testament! A new righteousness! The righteousness which is of faith!
Paul says that we are now free from the law, as a wife is freed from her dead husband:
Romans 7:4 "Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
Wow! Now we are married to Christ, to Jesus! To mercy and truth!
"For the law came by Moses, but mercy and truth came by Jesus Christ!
And we are now subject to His law! The law of Love & Mercy! The law of Christ! As Paul said to the Galatians:
5:14 "For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
6:2 "Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
That sure simplifies things, doesn’t it?
BUT… ARE WE ONLY FREED FROM THE SABBATH?
If we are now subject to the law of Love, the law of Mercy and Truth, does that mean we are only free from the law about the Sabbath? Of course not! We are free from the whole law!
But Jesus, like Moses, lived in a pretty bloodthirsty generation, that really needed the law! The Pharisees knew in spirit, that although he seemingly broke the law, that Jesus was for love and mercy! And they didn’t like that, because their law was easier on them in some ways… than love and mercy! As in Mark 10:
2 "And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. 3 And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? 4 And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. 5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
Ooh! That hurt! Jesus wanted them to love their wives to the end, but they wanted freedom to send her away if they were fed up with her or fancied someone new! So then, Jesus had gone from preaching to meddling, in their private lives and hearts! It was bad enough to them that Jesus broke the Sabbath! They already wanted to kill him just for "desecrating their Holy Day", thus undermining their authority and policing of the people, but this "love thing" was more than they could bear! You see, Love and mercy is stricter than the law! But at the same time, it also makes things easier! Like the Sabbath!
Now if Jesus had publicly broken other even more weightier commandments in the law which had a much deeper influence, he wouldn’t even have survived three months, instead of three years! And which sensitive points these are, will be clear from the following.
DID JESUS GO SLOW ON OTHER POINTS?
Average Christians dare to steer away from the harshness of the law on—in their minds—minor points which don’t seem to face them , nor do they normally even mention them, let alone condemn themselves or others in, nor even justify themselves! (Which doesn’t mean that they are not guilty of them!)
Let’s take Exodus 20 for example where God Himself spoke straight to the children of Israel:
3 "Thou shalt have no other gods before me.(Ooh! In this materialistic Age!)
4 "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image,(Christians don’t think anything about making pictures or statues or other graven images! Yet it is the law, IF you are under it!)
5 "Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them (Many certainly bow down to them! Just think about their cars on Saturday morning!)
7 "Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain (How many Christians speak about the Lord, and they don’t mean a thing of what they are saying, honoring Him with their lips only!)
8 "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
12 "Honour thy father and thy mother: (this is the most respectless generation ever! Christians included.)
13 "Thou shalt not kill. (WW1 & II, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Gulf war, Iraq, Libya! Christians killing people—even other Christians—who never even heard the Gospel!)
15 "Thou shalt not steal. (They steal millions in interests from the Third World and by not paying them enough for their labor and raw materials.)
16 "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. (Gossiping about each other publish each others sins.)
17 "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor’s. (Envying the Jones next door!)
23 "Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither gods of gold. (Jewelry, ornaments, etc.)
And one extra for the fun of it…
25 "And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: 26 Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon. (Church altars are hewn or polished and often build on steps… but I guess they reason that the men wear pants and often the women too, ha!)
Most of the time these commandments are not even mentioned by churchians, let alone enforced. They only bring you under the law if you mention sunsigns, drink a glass of wine or don’t go to (their) Church!
But there is really only 1 commandment left, that common Christians have no trouble…(I was gonna say obeying, but that is also not the case)… confessing, that they believe in them and intend to keep them, and most important of all accuse others of and judge others in! Also the Pharisees were very much on the attack about the only remaining strict commandment in the law!
14 "Thou shalt not commit adultery.
That is really somehow the last straw. Making and bowing down to other gods, dishonoring parents, envying others, gossiping and testifying falsely, yes killing others in the name of Christianity, seems to be OK for many, but uh-oh, sex? That’s a no no! Perhaps only secretly allowed "within the sanctity of holy matrimony!" No sex for singles, divorced, widows, teens, and holy cow, never outside "the sanctity of holy matrimony!"—Even if partners both consent to it!
Christian America demonstrates and persecutes Clinton for his sexual capers and sins, but didn’t even bat an eye when he murdered 80 men, women and children in Waco Texas, because they belonged to another religion than he and they thought proper. Neither do they don’t care how Clinton murdered thousands of Iraqi men, women and children—many of whom were Christians—where Iraq never even attacked America or Americans, not abroad nor at home in the USA! But Sex? Ooh! In the eyes of regular Christians sex virtually equals SIN!
SO DOES THE LAW OF LOVE APPLY ACROSS THE BOARD?
Even though Jesus never made an issue of it—like we said He wouldn’t have survived three months (or 3 days?)—the Pharisees did! Somehow they extrapolated His attitude towards the Sabbath onto the entire law! Once He preached mercy, truth and common sense in one aspect of the law, they figured—and rightly so—that He applied it to the other points as well, right across the board! And they figured right, because Jesus believed in mercy and truth for the believer, but He was not about to let it shorten His ministry by insinuations that He broke the law on the most sensitive point of adultery as well!
Maybe that’s even one reason, why He seemed to go on the attack about it—the best defence—convincing and convicting mainly the Pharisees that they also committed adultery, by seeming to make the law even stricter on that point.
He told them about the hardness of their hearts in sending away their wives, and that if they did so—except for fornication—they committed adultery themselves! And that if they, who prided themselves in that they did not commit adultery, only looked after a woman to lust after her, that they had already committed adultery in their hearts, thus including them—and every man for that reason—under sin as well! Ooh, and that hurt them! Here Jesus was not only setting the common people free from "their" law on the one hand, but seemingly bringing them the "Holy Pharisees" under it!
Jesus had to have amazing wisdom how to handle these serpents of the worshippers of the law, or he would get bitten prematurely. Nevertheless he could and would not compromise his convictions of love and mercy: (John 8)
3 "And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what do you say? 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. 7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. 8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee? 11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
She was under sin, as she was not acting in faith. And she couldn’t yet act in faith, as Jesus hadn’t died yet, and thus the New Testament wasn't legally in force yet. Nevertheless Jesus didn’t condemn her and only advised her not to sin again, and be stoned to death next time! "Lest a worse thing befall thee!" (But actually the just had always lived by faith! Even before the New Testament!)
Yet the question remains, did Jesus set us free from the law in regards to adultery as well, if and when we keep His law? The Law of Christ?—"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!"—By acting in love making sure that no one gets hurt? "According to your faith be it unto you!" (Matthew 9:29) "Being justified by faith, we have peace with God!"
Freedom & liberty are God's ideal, His ultimate, His plan from the beginning! And it's almost like He's been trying to bring His people step-by-step out of bondage towards this goal through the ages. He brought the Jews out of their slavery in Egypt, but then they were in bondage to the harsh & rigid rules of Moses--the law.
Then along came Jesus with his grace, mercy, forgiveness, love & truth--our salvation: "for the law was given by Moses, but grace & truth came by Jesus Christ." (jn.1:17) He came & showed us that salvation & true righteousness was not by works, but by grace!--that "the Lord is also Lord of the Sabbath, & that it was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." (mk.2:27,28) Thus the early Christians were liberated spiritually, they found spiritual freedom, but they were still somewhat in bondage to some of the old customs, traditions & laws which were hangovers from their Jewish past & background that they couldn't quite shake. Remember, the first Christian church was just coming out of the Jewish church & they almost had to make a compromise, because some of them were still under the bondage of the old law & weren't able to break completely free.
But Jesus himself never gave them any laws, except the law of love! When the self-righteous, hypocritical, religious leaders questioned him, "Master, which is the great commandment in the law?", He replied, "thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, & with all thy soul, & with all thy mind. This is the first & great commandment. And the second is like unto it, thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (mt.22:37-39)
He then shocked them by continuing to say, "on these two commandments hang all the law & the prophets." (mt.22:40) they had thousands of religious laws but Jesus told them that they now only needed two: love God & love others!--that's all! He said, "in this is the whole book!" He threw the book at them, all the law & all the prophets, the works!
Jesus said that this one simple law, love, is all the law as well as all the prophets!--that's pretty broad coverage! That takes in the entire Old Testament, "The law & the prophets"! Jesus said that's the whole works, the whole Bible, that's all the law--love! In other words, if you love God & you love others, what do you need with any other laws?--You're not going to hurt anybody, you're not going to be selfish, you're not going to do anything that will hurt anybody else!
Therefore Jesus' law of love frees us from the old law & is all-encompassing, all-absorbing, all-fulfilling & completely above & beyond any other law!--God's only law is love, & as long as something is done in love with real, unselfish, even sacrificial love, God's love, then it is absolutely lawful in God's eyes.--no matter whether it seems a sin in the eyes of the Church or immoral in the eyes of man, it is still absolutely innocent in the eyes of God if it's according to love!
The Bible says, "the fruit of the spirit is love; & against such (love) there is no law." (gal.5:22,23)--against pure love, the love of god, the unselfish sacrificial love of God & your fellow man, there is no law of God!
Jesus said, "I am not come to destroy the law or the prophets, but to fulfil!" (mt.5:17) and by fulfilling it, he ended it, therefore we are no longer required to keep the laws of Moses of the Old Testament! "for Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth." (rom.10:4)
HOW ABOUT SEX?
The Devil is the World's greatest enemy of sex, & for the churches to have taught that sex is a sin--or at least that it's ugly, dirty, bad & nasty--is one Hell-of-a-God-damned doctrine of devils! Yet that's what most of them teach, & they hold it over their peoples' heads as a club & a bondage & a means of lording their religion over them.
Thank God that many people today are breaking out of that horrible grip! But the sad part of it is that when people break away from such false doctrines & evil traditions of the church, then they think they're becoming sinners & they wind up giving the Devil the credit for it all! They figure that to really enjoy sex, to really be free, they've got to really become a sinner & break loose not only from the church, but from God also!--How sad!
And even when "sex is sin" is not the actual outright teaching of some churches, it's their attitude nevertheless, & that's the impression their children get. It's pitiful, tragic, the sexual ignorance in which so many kids today are raised! If the churches don't come right out & say that sex is sinful, their attitude conveys it!--It's all that cover-up, that constant cover-up that makes it appear to be so evil!
They don't teach that if you over-play & exhaust yourself or exercise too violently it is a sin. You're not taught that overeating is a sin.--They don't slap your hands & say, "Shame on you! That's naughty! That's dirty! You mustn't do that! That's bad! That's sinful!" But overeating is just as sinful as excessive masturbation or excessive sex of any kind. The excess of anything is the sin!
Strange, isn't it, that some of these very religious people should consider certain parts of the body & their activities as being normal, necessary & righteous, whereas they condemn other parts of the same body which God Himself created & the activities of these parts as being sinful or wicked & unlawful! It is perfectly acceptable to eat with the mouth & digest with the stomach & enjoy the sight, smell & taste of delicious foods & that comfortable contented feeling of a full stomach. These satisfactions of the flesh are considered perfectly lawful, normal & righteous.
But they vigorously & vociferously condemn openly, or teach prejudice & taboos & condemnation of privately, the perfectly natural, God-created & pleasurable enjoyment of the sight of the nude beauty of the human form which God made to be attractive to us, or the fragrance of the nearness of another human body, or the taste of another's lips, or the touch of another's sexual parts or even our own.--All of which God has made very pleasurable & sensually enjoyable by means of the very nerves which He Himself created for this purpose!
Why does the church condemn sex & make sexual pleasures out to be so sinful?--Because the Devil hates sex, & they have accepted his lies & thus become liars themselves! They seek to control their members through sexual prohibitions, making merchandise of their souls by telling them that sex is a sin & that pleasurable sexual activity is sinful, thus denying them their God-given rights, joys & pleasures of their own God-given bodies!
The deluded forces of the church system condemn the supreme god-given physical pleasure of man as the supreme sin! They have turned everything around backwards from the way it ought to be, condemning man's supreme physical pleasure as the worst of his sins! What a travesty against the Truth! What blasphemy against God's Holy Creation!
God created life & pleasure & happiness for us to enjoy! I don't have a sad God!--I have a happy God, Who wants me to be happy too, & you as well! This is the whole point of Jesus' coming into the World! He said, "I am come that you might have life, & that you might have it more abundantly!" (Jn.10:10) He came to relieve us of the suffering, pain, death & tears brought into the World by the Enemy & the sins of man.
Do you think for a minute that in God's original creation, that Adam & Eve, the two most perfectly beautiful, strongest & sexiest human bodies ever made, sat around moping & complaining in that Heaven-on-Earth of the Garden of Eden, wishing they had never been created, sorry they were alive & longing to be dead? This, of course, is ridiculous! They loved the life that God had given them to enjoy! They just made the mistake of wanting too much life, or wanting to go to the extreme, not being satisfied with what they already had, but wanting more, more than God knew was good for them.
So to really enjoy sex, you've got to belong to God!--And that's the only way that you can possibly regain the freedom & the liberty that Adam & Eve had in the Garden before they fell, the total freedom from guilt or any guilt complexes about sex. You've first got to find God & the Truth of God, to know the Lord & be led of His Spirit, & to know the Truth of His Word!--To know that all of the old prohibitive Mosaic Laws & regulations are all gone & totally superseded by the Love of Christ, the Law of Love, so that as long as what you're doing is in Love, it's lawful in the sight of God!
The only way you can get back to the original freedom of the Garden, the sinlessness of the Garden, the perfection of the Garden, the liberty of the Garden & the openness of the Garden is to get back to perfect fellowship & relationship with God & belief in His Word, faith in Him & in His Creation.--To know that He made it all & that He wants you to enjoy every sexual pleasure that is clean & right & good & not harmful, that He wants you to live in the pleasures & the love which He created between man & woman. PTL!
Then you'll have the faith to cut loose from the Devil's anti-sex propaganda, his prohibitions, guilt complexes, etc., knowing that there's nothing in the World at all wrong with sex as long as it's practised in love, whatever it is or whoever it's with!
So enjoy yourself & sex & what god has given you to enjoy, without fear or condemnation! For "perfect love casts out all fear, for fear hath torment" (1Jn.4:18)--particularly sexual fears, which can be physical torture! Don't let the Devil fool you into thinking you have to pay for sex by sinfulness in order to enjoy it! He's a liar from the beginning & the father of lies! (Jn.8:44) So if he tells you that you can't enjoy sex without being one of his sinners, just face your fears & tell him he's a liar, slap him in the face with God's Word & he'll flee from you!
Then go ahead & masturbate and/or make love with all your might & thank God for it!--And don't be afraid to explode like an atom bomb, girls, even if your legs go straight up & hit the ceiling, or your body bangs the bottom of the bed, but take care lest the neighbours hear your screams of delight & shrieks of pleasure & think someone's killing you! Enjoy yourself!--It's later than you think!
Cut loose from those old foolish fallacies & woeful old wives' tales still taught by some churches & parents! Let yourself go into the bosom of God & let God do it to you in an orgasm of the Spirit till you're free!--Amen? Now try it!--You'll like it!--And thank God for it!--Amen? Wow!--Here we go again! Hallelujah! Are you comin'?--I've already gone!
WHY THIS EXPLANATION?
Many churches lord it over God’s heritage, by harping on the insecurity of their salvation, if they don’t believe their way or if they’re not members of their church. Whereas Jesus didn’t force anyone to be a member of His "organisation", his group of 12 to 70 disciples. He told those that were interested to:
"Come and see!" and "follow Me and I will make you fishers of men!"
But He tested the multitudes of people who were trying to follow Him, where many got discouraged and gave up. He didn’t try to hang on to His great following, but rather put them through the test, saying in Matthew 5:1
…seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: Luke 14:25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them, 26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
But He never ever dicouraged anybody’s salvation, on the contrary, he encouraged the weak sinners and lost sheep, knowing that they would never be His disciples and part of His inner circle!
His Gospel of free salvation was for anyone, and that’s why He ordered His disciples to go and preach the the Gospel! The "Happy News"!
Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
You can be saved, and free to love! GO QUICK! Tell it on the mountain! Halleluja!
